The Ubiquiti UACC-OM-QSFP28-SR4 is a QSFP28 optical transceiver that delivers 100 Gbps over multi-mode fibre at distances up to 100 m. It uses an MPO-12 Type B UPC connector and 850 nm optics, draws a maximum of 2.5 W, and drops straight into the QSFP28 ports on UniFi aggregation switches. If you are moving your core or your inter-rack links beyond 25G, this is the module that gets you there without pulling single-mode fibre.

Key features

  • 100 Gbps of headroom. Supports data rates of 40 and 100 Gbps, so one part number covers both your current 40G links and your 100G upgrade path.
  • Up to 100 m of reach. OM4 multi-mode fibre carries the link to 100 m (328 ft); OM3 reaches 70 m (229 ft). That covers almost any run inside a building or between racks.
  • Works with QSFP28 and QSFP+ interfaces. Compatible across both port types, which protects the investment as switches are refreshed.
  • MPO-12 Type B UPC connector. The standard 12-fibre parallel-optics interface used for 100GBASE-SR4 links.
  • Only 2.5 W maximum draw. Low power per port means less heat in the rack and lower running costs across a dense aggregation switch.
  • 850 nm short-reach optics. Multi-mode fibre and transceivers cost considerably less than single-mode equivalents over in-building distances.
  • Wide operating window. Rated from 0 to 70 °C (32 to 158 °F) for comms rooms without tightly controlled cooling.
  • Genuine Ubiquiti hardware. Recognised natively by UniFi, so link status and port detail appear in UniFi Network without workarounds.

100G speed where you need it most

Aggregation and core uplinks are the first place a network runs out of room. As access switches move to 2.5G and 10G and access points push more traffic per port, the links between switches become the bottleneck. The UACC-OM-QSFP28-SR4 clears that bottleneck by turning a single QSFP28 port into a 100 Gbps path, giving you roughly four times the capacity of a 25G SFP28 uplink and ten times a 10G SFP+ link, on one pair of transceivers and one fibre trunk.

40G and 100G from a single part number

The module supports both 40 and 100 Gbps data rates and works with QSFP28 and QSFP+ interfaces. That flexibility matters when a network is upgraded in phases. You can stock one module, use it on a 40G port today, and move the same unit to a 100G port later without buying a second SKU. It also simplifies spares: a single tray of UACC-OM-QSFP28-SR4 modules can cover every high-speed port in the rack.

Purpose-built for UniFi aggregation

Drop the module into the QSFP28 ports on the UniFi Enterprise Campus Aggregation switch (ECS-Aggregation), which provides six 100G QSFP28 ports alongside 48 25G SFP28 ports and 1.8 Tbps of non-blocking throughput. Because the module is Ubiquiti's own, UniFi Network reports the link cleanly with no compatibility guesswork and no unlocking of third-party optics. Always check the port layout on the tech specs page for your specific switch model before ordering, since QSFP28 ports are found on the higher-capacity aggregation platforms rather than across the whole switching range.

100 m over the fibre you probably already have

100GBASE-SR4 runs on multi-mode fibre, which is what most existing in-building backbones are already built from. With OM4 you get 100 m (328 ft) of reach; with OM3, 70 m (229 ft). For links between floors, between racks in adjacent rooms, or from an MDF to an IDF, that is usually more than enough, and it avoids the cost and lead time of installing single-mode fibre and long-reach optics for a distance you do not need.

Low power, low heat, low cost per 100G port

At a maximum of 2.5 W, the module keeps thermal load down in a densely populated 1U aggregation switch. Multiply that across six 100G ports and the saving in cooling and power is real, particularly in comms rooms without dedicated air conditioning. Short-reach multi-mode optics are also the least expensive route to 100 Gbps, so the cost per port stays sensible even when you are populating every uplink.

Standard MPO-12 Type B UPC connectivity

The MPO-12 Type B UPC interface is the standard 12-fibre parallel-optics connector for 100GBASE-SR4. Type B polarity means an MPO trunk with the correct polarity connects the transmit lanes at one end to the receive lanes at the other without adapters or custom cabling. Note that fibre is not supplied with the module, so order a matching MPO-12 multi-mode patch cable or trunk at the same time.

Typical deployments

  • Campus and multi-building networks — high-capacity uplinks between distribution and core.
  • Data centre and server rooms — leaf-to-spine and top-of-rack aggregation over short multi-mode runs.
  • Large hospitality, education, and healthcare sites — collapsing many 10G and 25G access links into a single 100G backbone.
  • Broadcast, production, and ProAV facilities — moving uncompressed high-bitrate media between racks.
  • Managed service providers and integrators — a repeatable, supported 100G building block across client sites.
  • Networks already on 40G — reuse the same module when the switch estate moves to 100G.

Safety warning. Class 1 Laser Product, IEC/EN 60825-1:2014. Do not look into the ends of the fibre optic cable or the module while the equipment is powered.
