An access control reader is the part of your security system people use every day, so it needs to be fast, reliable and right for the door it protects. Ubiquiti’s UniFi door access readers replace keys with credentials you can issue, change and revoke in seconds, without re-keying a single lock. Every door is managed in the UniFi Access application, where you set schedules, organise visitor access and review entry logs across your whole site. The software is licence-free, so adding doors never adds per-door fees.

Cards, phones, PINs, fingerprints and faces

Mix and match credentials to suit each entrance and each user:

• NFC cards and key fobs – supported by every reader in the range, with G3 models reading common 13.56 MHz formats such as MIFARE Classic and DESFire.
• Touch Pass – users tap an iPhone, Apple Watch or Android phone to unlock with a pass stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. There’s no app to open, and Express Mode works even when the phone is locked.
• Mobile unlock – tap a phone on the reader or press a button in the UniFi Endpoint app.
• PIN codes – enter a code on keypad and touchscreen models such as Reader Flex, G3 Reader Fingerprint and G3 Reader Pro.
• Fingerprint – G3 Reader Fingerprint stores up to 300 fingerprints, and Retrofit Reader Fingerprint brings biometrics to existing wiring.
• Face unlock – walk up and walk in with G3 Reader Pro, G3 Intercom, G6 Entry and G6 Pro Entry.
• Visitor QR codes – give guests a code to scan at G3 Reader Pro, G3 Intercom or G6 Pro Entry.
• Number plate unlock – G6 Entry models can unlock for recognised vehicles.

For sensitive areas, two-step authentication on G3 Reader Pro and G3 Intercom can require two credentials, such as a card and a PIN, or approval from a second authorised person before the door opens.

Which UniFi access reader suits your door?

• G3 Reader – a compact NFC and Touch Pass reader for offices, meeting rooms and internal doors, with hand-wave request-to-exit.
• Reader Flex – adds a 12-button keypad so users can enter a PIN instead of carrying a card, and is rated to operate in temperatures up to 60°C.
• G3 Reader Fingerprint – fingerprint, keypad, NFC and Touch Pass in one reader, ideal where cards are easily lent or lost.
• G3 Reader Pro – a 4.7-inch touchscreen reader with an integrated camera, face unlock, two-way intercom and doorbell, made for main entrances and reception doors.
• G6 Entry and G6 Pro Entry – a UniFi Protect camera and access reader in one, with AI detections and face unlock. The G6 Entry pairs a 5MP main camera with an 8MP package camera and IR night vision, while the G6 Pro Entry steps up to a 12MP camera, 3-inch touch display and PIN entry. Both suit covered entrances.
• G3 Intercom – a 7-inch touchscreen intercom with an 8MP camera and IP65 rating, built for apartment buildings, gated sites and commercial lobbies.
• Access Ultra – reader and hub in one unit that powers a 12 V lock directly, so a single PoE+ cable runs the whole door for up to 3,000 users.
• Retrofit Reader and Retrofit Reader Fingerprint – OSDP readers that connect to the UniFi Retrofit Hub over existing cabling, so you can modernise a legacy system without rewiring.

Designed for clean, durable installs

Most UniFi readers take power and data over a single network cable using PoE, so there’s no separate power supply to run to the door. Weather-rated housings let you mount most models on exposed outdoor doors, mounting hardware is included, and junction boxes and angle mounts are available as accessories. Most G3 readers also come in black or white to suit your door frames.

One platform for doors, cameras and networking

Each reader connects to a UniFi Access Hub that controls the lock, including the Door Hub, Door Hub Mini, Gate Hub, Elevator Hub, Enterprise Access Hub and Retrofit Hub. Access Ultra is the exception, with its hub built in. Run UniFi Access on a supported UniFi console and your doors sit alongside your UniFi network and UniFi Protect cameras in one interface. Pair any door with a Protect camera to review footage alongside each entry, or choose a camera-equipped reader to capture both from a single device.

UniFi door access readers: FAQs

What do I need to set up UniFi door access?

A UniFi console running the UniFi Access application, an Access Hub to control each lock (not needed with Access Ultra), a reader, a compatible door lock and PoE switching to power the hub and reader. UniFi Access starter kits bundle the core components.

Are there licence fees with UniFi Access?

No. The UniFi Access application is licence-free, with no per-door or per-reader fees. Touch Pass is an optional paid extra: each UniFi Access console receives 10 complimentary one-year passes, and additional passes are billed per user, per year.

Do UniFi readers work with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet?

Yes. Readers with Touch Pass support – G3 Reader, Reader Flex, G3 Reader Fingerprint, G3 Reader Pro, G3 Intercom, G6 Entry, G6 Pro Entry and both Retrofit Readers – accept passes from Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch, and from Google Wallet on Android phones.

Can UniFi readers be installed outdoors?

Yes. Most models are IP55-rated for exposed outdoor doors, the G3 Intercom is IP65-rated, and the G6 Entry models are designed for covered outdoor entrances.

Can I keep my existing access control wiring?

Often, yes. The Retrofit Reader and Retrofit Reader Fingerprint connect to the UniFi Retrofit Hub over existing cabling, and Ubiquiti’s 2-wire PoE retrofit option lets standard readers reuse two-wire runs.
