These 13 guides target UniFi Network 11, UniFi OS 6 and Protect 7.3, as they stood in late October 2026. Ubiquiti renames menus often, so if a label differs slightly, look for the nearest match in the same area.
Where to start
New to UniFi? Read the guides in this order:
- Zero to a working network
- VLANs made simple: Main, IoT, Guest and Cameras
- Wi-Fi settings that matter (and the ones to leave alone)
- Remote access: WireGuard vs Teleport
- Network 11: what you gain, what you lose, and how to upgrade safely
- Never-offline internet: phone hotspot and 5G backup
- What's hogging my bandwidth? Live Flows and Time Machine Topology
- Get alerted when a new device joins your network
- Self-updating blocklists with External Network Lists
For smart-home and Protect camera owners:
- UniFi for smart-home fans: Matter and Thread devices in Network 11
- Halve your camera storage with Protect 7.3
- Home Assistant + UniFi Protect: camera-driven automations
For 5G as your main connection:
Before you start
- Who they're for: home and homelab owners, with notes where a small-business setup differs.
- How paths are written: Settings › WiFi › Create New means open each menu in turn. Paths start in the UniFi Network web app unless a step says otherwise. Where Ubiquiti hasn't published a path, the guide says so; look for the nearest match on screen.
- Network 11 is new. Ubiquiti released it on 12 October 2026, and it needs UniFi OS 6, which isn't available for every console yet. The Network 11 upgrade, Matter and Thread, Live Flows, External Network Lists and new-device alerts guides, and the hotspot option in the backup internet guide, depend on it.
- Sources: each tutorial cites Ubiquiti's own pages, plus NBN, ISP, ACMA and government pages for Australian details and official Home Assistant, Apple, Google and SmartThings pages where those products are involved.
- Before you change anything: download a backup first (our Network 11 upgrade guide shows how). Make firewall and VLAN changes from a wired device, so a mistake can't cut off your own Wi-Fi session.
For Australian readers
- Cabling needs a registered cabler. Fixed data cabling inside walls, floors or ceilings, including Ethernet to access points and cameras, must be installed by an ACMA-registered cabler. You can plug in pre-made patch leads yourself, as long as no part is hidden in a cavity. Unauthorised cabling work can bring a fine of up to 120 penalty units (about $40,000). See ACMA: cabling your home or office and find a registered cabler.
- Where Australia differs: NBN connections and ISP settings, CGNAT at Australian ISPs, Wi-Fi channels, camera and audio-recording laws, which 5G Backup model works here, and whether the 5G Max models suit Australian networks.
- Spelling: these guides use Australian spelling, but menu names keep Ubiquiti's US spelling (such as Optimize) so they match the screen.
