Dome vs. Turret: Which Is Right for You?

Dome cameras sit behind a protective cover. That makes it hard to tell from the ground which way the lens is pointing, and it helps deter tampering. Many dome models here are rated IK10, the top of the impact-resistance scale. They’re a strong choice for ceilings and walls within reach, such as retail floors, lobbies, schools, and stairwells.

Turret cameras, often called eyeball cameras, place the lens in an adjustable housing with no dome cover in front of it. A dome cover can reflect infrared light back into the lens at night, and turrets avoid that glare. They’re also quick to aim during installation. Turrets are ideal under eaves, above entrances, and along driveways, where clear night images matter most.

Night vision reaches up to 40 m (131 ft), depending on the model. The large 1/1.2" sensors in the G6 Pro and G6 Edge cameras are built for exceptional low-light clarity. One Cable, One Platform, No Mandatory Subscription

Every camera is powered over Ethernet, so one cable carries both power and data, with no power point needed where the camera mounts. Most models run on standard PoE or PoE+. The AI Multi Sensor 4 needs PoE++, so check each camera’s power requirement when choosing your switch.

Manage every camera in UniFi Protect, with live view, playback, and smart alerts on web and mobile. Recordings are stored locally on your UniFi Cloud Gateway or NVR. There are no per-camera licences or mandatory recording subscriptions, so costs stay predictable as your system grows. Mounting accessories make every installation clean and secure, including:
