True STR MLO: two bands working together, not taking turns
Most WiFi 7 clients advertise Multi-Link Operation yet still transmit on one band at any given moment, hopping between 5 GHz and 6 GHz rather than using both. UniFi AirWire is built around STR MLO, so its 5 GHz and 6 GHz radios operate independently and simultaneously as full-duplex links. Instead of alternating, it aggregates the spectrum of both connections, delivering higher sustained throughput, lower latency and a link that holds steady when one band is congested or noisy. It's the client-side piece that lets a UniFi WiFi 7 network deliver fibre-like performance to the devices people actually use.
Up to 3× the range with a directional super-antenna
6 GHz signals are fast, but they fade quickly with distance. AirWire counters this with an advanced directional super-antenna system rated at 11 dBi on both bands, paired with up to 25 dBm of transmit power on 5 GHz and 20 dBm on 6 GHz. The result is up to three times the usable range of a typical client device, with strong 6 GHz performance sustained in rooms and offices where built-in WiFi cards would fall back to slower bands or drop the connection.
A dedicated scanning radio for real-time spectrum visibility
Alongside its data radios, AirWire carries a dedicated scanning radio that continuously analyses the RF environment from the client's point of view, without taking throughput away from your connection. That live spectrum data surfaces in UniFi Network, giving administrators a clear picture of interference and channel conditions where users actually sit, so access point placement and channel plans can be tuned on evidence rather than assumptions.
One-click onboarding with UniFi Auto-Link
AirWire is a native UniFi device. Plug it in, click Adopt in UniFi Network, and Auto-Link handles secure association and provisioning automatically. There are no SSIDs to type, no credentials to manage on the client and no manual configuration, making it as quick to roll out across a fleet of workstations as it is to set up at a single desk.
Plug-and-play across macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and iPadOS
To the host system, AirWire appears as a standard 5 GbE USB network adapter using drivers already built into macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and iPadOS. On most systems there is nothing to install: connect it to a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) or faster port and you have a multi-gigabit wireless link. Power arrives over USB-PD (5/9/12 V) at 15 W in standard mode or 20 W in enhanced mode, and the built-in 0.96" status display shows connection state at a glance.
