Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the battery last on the Environmental Sensor?
Battery life primarily depends on the reporting frequency configured for each sensor. At the default setting of 5 minutes, the sensor lasts up to 5 years, and with less frequent reporting it can extend up to 6 years. Actual battery life may be shorter in cold temperatures or if the sensor frequently reports leaks and/or out-of-range events.
How does leak detection work on the Environmental Sensor?
The sensor is equipped with multiple leak detection points:
- Flood detection: Two sets of contact points on the bottom of the device sense the presence of standing water.
- Drip detection: A dedicated set of contact points on the top of the device detects leaks from above, such as dripping pipes or condensation.
- External probes: A 3.5mm port allows connection of compatible third-party leak detection probes for expanded coverage.
What does the function button on the Environmental Sensor do?
Since the sensor normally operates in a low-power sleep mode, pressing the button temporarily wakes it up and forces it to synchronise with the SuperLink Gateway. When pressed, the sensor is also highlighted in the devices page of UniFi Protect making it easy to identify the device.
How will I be notified if a leak is detected?
Customised notifications for leak or out-of-range events can be configured in Alarm Manager. Once configured, UniFi Protect instantly sends out a push notification or webhook and logs the event in the dashboard.
Can the battery be replaced when it runs out?
Yes, the sensor uses a CR123A battery.
